YJack featured in SCHON MAGAZINE - ACTOR JAYLIN FLETCHER

VIEW ARTICLE He may only be 13 but Jaylin Fletcher is the break-out star of the moment. While most kids his age are yet to figure out their path, Fletcher’s IMDB credits already read like an impressive portfolio — and his career is only just kicking off.  Fletcher’s latest role sees him starring in the TNT series Snowpiercer, which also airs globally on Netflix. Based on the 2013 South Korean-Czech film of the same title from Parasite visionary, Bong Joon-ho, Snowpiercer takes place in a dystopian universe. Where the world has turned into a frozen wasteland, the remainder of humanity has taken shelter on a perpetually moving train that is divided by class in order to escape a glacial demise. The series tackles subjects of class conflict, social injustice, and politics, all ever-present issues in our own world. Fletcher stars as Miles, a young boy from the back end of the train who attempts to work his way up in the hierarchy.  If Snowpiercer wasn’t impressive on its own, you can also catch Fletcher on Netflix’s upcoming series, Clickbait, which has been postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. He’s also got an apparel line in the works with his mother, one of his most die-hard supporters. In the midst of his busy schedule, Schön! caught up with the rising young star to get the scoop on his role in Snowpiercer, how he celebrated his recent graduation while in quarantine, and find out when he has time to just be a normal 13-year-old kid.  For those who may not be familiar with you yet, what was your introduction to the world of acting? My introduction to real acting was the first movie I’ve ever done called Saturday Church it was a great opportunity which I feel grateful for because I got to work with an amazing cast! Was there a specific moment when you decided to pursue acting as a career? I think I wanted to pursue acting as a career when my mum put all my older siblings into it, I wanted to be like them. It felt awesome seeing them on the screen!      Can you tell us a bit about the casting process for Snowpiercer? The casting process for Snowpiercer wasn’t as long as most. I did a self-tape for it then I got called in to come to the office, auditioned again then got a callback, did an audition in front of the director, and producer then got the call that changed my life that I got the JOB! My entire family and I were screaming because we were so excited! What was your reaction when you found out that you had landed the role? I was astounded but I had a gut feeling that I would get it because during the final audition I told the director I could do an excellent British accent, and he said, and I quote, “we’ll see”. How did you prepare for this role? Had you seen the film prior to being cast? Preparing for this role took some work. I had to research trains and engineers, did calculations, and had to create a backstory for the character. I had watched the movie at least five times before I even knew about the show. It was all worth it! What are you most excited for viewers to see during Miles’ journey? I’m excited for the viewers to see Miles help his tail family as much as possible in a CRAZY episode, so stay tuned because we have so many surprises and only it gets better and better! The writers were AMAZING! Do you personally feel Miles and yourself are similar in any aspect? I feel like I have the will of Miles to help in any way I can and at least 80% of his intelligence. I am 100% honored to be this amazing character. What is your process of getting into character? I have to get into the mindset of the character and think about how a person living in that type of situation would act. You have to love what you do to be able to make a character come to life! It takes work… Who are some of the people in the industry that you look up to or would love to work with? I would love to work with Will Smith. My dream is to be in a movie or show with him. He makes everything look so easy and cool and anything he touches turns into gold. What can you tell us about your upcoming role in Netflix’s Clickbait? I play Kai Brewer in Clickbait and he’s a good kid, an athlete, and tries to help his family find his dad in any type of way possible, kind of like Miles. Aside from acting, we saw that you recently graduated, congratulations! This year graduations are getting creative in light of COVID, how did you celebrate? For my graduation, we had a barbecue and a party with just my siblings and parents, and my sister’s dog which was pretty fun even though I would like to go out again! How have you been keeping busy at home? Mostly playing video games and sports. I’ve also been doing a lot of self-tapes and interviews such as this daily. I’ve also been working on my brand, called Fletch5, merchandise that we will drop soon!     Most people your age don’t have to worry about balancing their work and personal lives, but seeing as you’ve been so busy on screen, how are you balancing being on several major shows with just being a normal kid? I still do kid stuff like play video games, ride bikes, play sports, and just have fun. But if my career interferes with playtime then it’s always work before play. I love what I do so it’s all fun to me! We hear you’re passionate about several charitable organizations. Can you tell us a bit about them and what attracted you to them? Well, I’m passionate about Feed The Homeless, Make-A-Wish, and ASPCA. Feed The Homeless caught my attention because I hate seeing people living on the street, and they shouldn’t have to live like that, they’re people too. Make-A-Wish caught my attention because I have seen people who die from cancer and I feel like they deserve to have an amazing moment before they pass. ASPCA is one because I love animals, especially dogs and I love that they can help them. What are you most looking forward to this year? What I’m most looking forward to this year is for 2020 to calm down and let me enjoy my summer in peace without hate, violence, or anything negative activity that disturbs the peace of other humans! Also, I really want the PlayStation 5.   The ‘Snowpiercer‘ series is currently streaming on TNT and Netflix. Watch the trailer here. YJack featured in DAMAN MAGAZINE - ACTOR JONATHAN DAVISS

VIEW ARTICLE Bomber jacket by Uneek Collection / Belt by Atomic Mission Gear   American actor Jonathan Daviss has just started his acting career and we’re here to witness those early steps of what looks to be an exciting journey. Though his acting credits isn’t very long yet, but his breakthrough role in the new Netflix series “Outer Banks” has been well received. Daviss’ character Pope—and what he represents—has become a fan favorite. As the whole world is now on hold, DA MAN had the opportunity to talk with Daviss about the “Outer Banks” and his plans for now. DAMAN: Hi Jonathan, thank you for having us. How are you holding up these days?Jonathan Daviss: I’m holding up well. I’ve been quarantined with my family and my dog Titan, so I haven’t been lonely at all. Then, when I get tired of my sisters, a game of “Smash Bros.” or “NBA 2K” does the trick! DAMAN: Congratulations on the success of “Outer Banks.” Can you tell us a bit about your character, Pope?Jonathan Daviss: Pope is the brains of the group. He’s from the cut, but unlike John B. (Chase Stokes) and JJ (Rudy Pankow) he can see a way out through his scholarship. Pope, however, is constantly torn between the pressure to succeed in school as his scholarship will pay for the education his parents can’t afford and wanting to be with his friends, enjoying his summer and saving them from the personal obstacles they are facing. DAMAN: Pope has become a definite fan-favorite. Personally, how do you feel about the character?Jonathan Daviss: I think he’s a very important character not only in the context of the plot, but also because of who his character represents. I know the pressure of having to work harder than some of the people around me because of financial limitations, geographic location and social status. I also understand the pressure of wanting to please your parents and be a role model for those in your situation. Jacket by A.Tiziano / Shirt by Raga Man / Jeans by Cult of Individuality / Sneakers by Nike Jacket by Norden / Beanie by Rupert & Buckley / Bag by Atomic Mission Gear DAMAN: What are the main traits from Pope that you agree and disagree with?Jonathan Daviss: He’s smart, caring and at the end of the day he puts others before himself. Sometimes he can be too much of a hard edge realist, but his heart is always in the right place. DAMAN: What was your life like before “Outer Banks”?Jonathan Daviss: Before “Outer Banks” I was working at Saks Off 5th in the shoe department, as well as charging Bird Scooters to make some extra money on the side to pay for acting classes. I also helped my mom with my sisters. She works from home, so it helped that I was able to drop them off and pick them up from school so she could focus without her day being interrupted. DAMAN: How did you land the role of Pope?Jonathan Daviss: I had my first audition for Pope in February of 2019. It was an in-person audition in the casting office, then again for a callback. The last phase of the audition was a chemistry read, with Rudy Pankow (who plays JJ) and a couple of others auditioning for John B. and Kiara (Madison Bailey). From there it was a waiting game to see if I got the role. Bandana by Raga Man / Shirt and shorts by Rupert & Buckley / T-shirt by Y Jack / Belt by Atomic Mission Gear Bandana by Raga Man / T-shirt by Zara / Short by Rupert & Buckley / Belt by Atomic Mission Gear DAMAN: Is there anything you can share with us about “Outer Banks” season two?Jonathan Daviss: At this point we don’t know anything about a potential season two … but who knows? DAMAN: How do you see your character, Pope, evolving in the next season?Jonathan Daviss: The consequences of season one should carry over into season two. Pope is dealing with the supposed loss of one of his closest friends. Not to mention, the kiss and potential relationship with Kiara that needs to be explored or hashed out. Will he remain on edge like he was at the end of the season? How will his relationship with his dad be affected with the loss of his scholarship and the mini tussle they had between each other? There are a ton of questions that need to be answered. DAMAN: You’re often seen playing with your guitar. What’s your favorite song?Jonathan Daviss: “Cupid” by 112. This was the first song I ever learned to play, so it will always hold a special place because of that. T-shirt by Y Jack Shirt by Rupert & Buckley / Jeans by Top Man / T-shirt by Y Jack / Backpack by Atomic Mission Gear / Sneakers by Gucci DAMAN: Do you write your own music too?Jonathan Daviss: I’m starting to, but I still have a lot to learn before I’m ready to start making tracks. I have a few ideas for arrangements and lyrics and maybe even a collaboration. but nothing complete yet. We’ll see what the future holds. DAMAN: Would you consider being a musician in the future?Jonathan Daviss: It’s definitely something that I would want to explore in the near future. I love music of all types, but I’m a perfectionist so I’m probably my own worst critic. DAMAN: The pandemic has upended everybody’s lives, basically. But do you still have any exciting projects coming up?Jonathan Daviss: Right now, most of Hollywood has shut down. So, instead of looking for roles I’ve kind of shifted to writing some passion projects I’ve been sitting on. Shirt by Rupert & Buckley / Jeans by Top Man / T-shirt by Y Jack / Backpack by Atomic Mission Gear / Sneakers by Gucci Outfit by Rupert & Buckley DAMAN: How do you keep yourself positive during these hard times?Jonathan Daviss: People. My family and friends have kept me sane. Keeping communication with others is incredibly crucial during a time such as this. There are a lot of people who feel helpless and alone without the added pressure of a shelter in place, so I make it a point to stay connected not just with my family, but with others who may not be fortunate enough to be with the ones they love during this difficult time. DAMAN: Do you have any wise words or favorite quote to live by every day?Jonathan Daviss: One of my favorite quotes is “Discipline and Consistency.” I strongly believe that you can accomplish anything you put your mind to if you live by this quote. You must be disciplined enough to put in the work on a consistent basis and set new goals as you accomplish them along the way… DAMAN: Do you have any hidden talents?Jonathan Daviss: I sketch. It’s something I’ve been doing for as long as I can remember. There was even a time where I really wanted to get into animation. FASHION MANNUSCRIPT - YJACK BRAND FEATURE

VIEW ARTICLE   Sophie Hollis June 1, 2020 5 Min Read YJack plans to astonish the U.S. with a T-shirt The shutdowns caused by the novel coronavirus have been hard for all kinds of businesses, and fashion is no exception. The National Retail Federation (NRF) reported that retail sales were down nearly 9% in March, and fashion was one of the hardest-hit sectors. But maybe there is something to be gained from this data — at least according to Gina Lin, designer for YJack. “Who’s buying clothing, you know, right now? To be honest?” asked Lin. “That’s shifted the mindset of so many designers — thinking about the future and probably being more mindful of what it is that they’re going to produce, because there’s just so much waste out there.” How many nonessential workers have been getting dressed lately? Probably not many (unless there’s a video call scheduled). As more people carve out routines with sweatpants, a trendy wardrobe is sinking on the list of priorities. “After COVID-19, it makes you think about how you’re just grabbing certain things that are easy and quick and timeless,” Lin continued. Luckily for the Los Angeles-based brand, basics are their specialty. “I love that the T-shirt is something you don’t have to think about,” she said. To be fair, YJack T-shirts are not run-of-the-mill. Lin and some of her team members from the brand’s Korean branch compare YJack T-shirts to Paul Cézanne’s apple painting. The artist is supposed to have said, “I want to astonish Paris with an apple,” and Lin feels that the same sentiment applies to YJack’s basics. “It’s really the concept of something so simple and something so classic — the idea of that and trying to improve on it,” she explained. The reason YJack shirts are so durable is because of the brand’s proprietary fabric, Exfina cotton, which is made from extra-long cotton fibers. Though extra-long staple cotton yarn (ELS) is available to the whole industry, YJack has worked for a long time to weave it into the cotton jersey that serves as the basis for its line. “Technically, we’re more of a textiles company because our focus is more on the fabrication; we’re not purchasing it from another vendor to make it for us,” Lin said. “The way that we’ve treated it and tested it — it’s pretty much gone through a lab, and we’ve really perfected it to what we want it to be and how we want it to function and move and drape and everything.” A fabric that will last is the basis for a timeless design that will last, Lin explained. “A nourishing meal requires the best ingredients, and high-quality clothing should only be made with the best ingredients,” she said. Lin’s has been in the industry for about 13 years and has worked in contemporary and mass-market design. She spent some of that time in different parts of China and in Paris. “My main thing is noticing the differences in the details and noticing the fit differences between all of these locations and cultures,” she said. “After being all over, my style has become a little more timeless.” But before YJack is able to branch out to other staples — T-shirt dresses, pants and pullovers, perhaps — Lin has focused on making sure that the foundation is right. “We’re always working in a lab in the sense that we’re trying it out, testing it out, so it takes time for us to truly understand the necessity of something and whether or not we’re going to produce it,” she said. If and when the brand does begin to experiment with other fabrics, Lin is sure that they will stick to natural ones. Pollutants from polyester, nylon and acrylic fabrics are a major source of plastic in the ocean, she explained, so it’s important to the company to avoid them. “One single load of laundry could release hundreds of thousands of fibers from our clothing into the water supply,” she argued. Until then, YJack, like most others, is trying to navigate the market’s new terrain. “It’s shifted everyone’s mindset — even the connections and the relationships that we share now,” said Lin, referring to the coronavirus. “I think that it’s more relationships that have changed … It’s required a lot more trust.” Trust — and patience — are keeping the brand going, and Lin is excited for the time when shoppers are finally ready to try out YJack T-shirts for themselves. “I’m looking forward to seeing how people are going to react to it and how people are going to feel wearing it,” she said. “Just the feeling of this T-shirt — gosh, I can’t even explain it. You just throw it on and it’s like so cooling, and there’s nothing else like it. I’m personally even shocked by it.” As we all wait to see how retail will emerge from this historic period, Lin continues to hope for the best. Perhaps this period of isolation will give consumers a different perspective on what is important to have in their closets. “There’s a silver lining to all of this, and I think that silver lining is less waste and more mindfulness,” she said.

Reverie Page Magazine - In Search Of The Perfect T-Shirt: The YJack T-Shirt

VIEW ARTICLE   by PAGE Editor Founded in July 2019, YJACK set out to create high-quality goods that maintain their value. In doing so, they developed EXFINA cotton, made with the highest grade yarn for stronger, softer, and more durable fabrics. YJACK released its first collection of T-shirt designs using the EXFINA cotton in time for Spring/Summer 2020. THE MAKING OF… When it comes to clothing, the T-shirt might be the most basic of basics, and yet one of the most iconic as well. So how do you improve on something so ubiquitous? New L.A.-based clothing brand, YJACK has launched a beautifully minimalist collection of T-shirts for men and women that elevates the wardrobe staple to the extraordinary. The YJACK team believes that what makes for a truly successful garment depends on the quality of its fabric and yarn, and they are proudly committed to creating high-quality products made from the finest fabrics. However, a great product is not just about its quality and design per se, but about genuine craftsmanship that is also a great value.    THERE IS QUALITY IN LUXURY “IT’S NO SURPRISE THAT LUXURY BRANDS ARE ABLE TO OFFER GREAT DESIGNS BUT OFTEN, THEY TEND TO BE QUITE EXPENSIVE. AND THE OPPOSITE IS TRUE FOR FAST FASHION,” said the design team at Y JACK.   “IT WAS IMPORTANT FOR US, AT YJACK, TO OFFER OUR CUSTOMERS THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS, A PHENOMENAL PRODUCT—MADE WITH GREAT MATERIALS AND USING IMPECCABLE CRAFTSMANSHIP—AT THE BEST POSSIBLE VALUE.” EXFINA cotton Much like a delicious, nourishing meal requires the best ingredients, high-quality clothing can only be made with the best ingredients and, for YJACK, the main ingredient is EXFINA cotton. Although cotton is the most widely used fabric for apparel because of its softness, absorbency, and breathability, it is also a natural fiber which means it wears down faster, holds moisture longer, and is prone to shrinking. Through years of research and strong conviction, YJACK developed EXFINA cotton, superior quality fabric that overcomes these, and other common T-shirt pitfalls.   GOOD T-SHIRTS ARE HARD TO FIND EXFINA cotton is made with Extra Long Staple Cotton yarn (ELS), the highest grade yarn used only in 8% of the world’s cotton yarn production. Because of its longer cottonfiber, the yarn makes for stronger, softer, and more durable fabrics. This means the YJACK T-shirts, made with EXFINA cotton, have a hand feel and elasticity of fine silk, will not be prone to pilling, and will not shrink or change shape after multiple washings.  For Spring/Summer 2020, YJACK offers the James Relaxed and Classic Fit Tees for men that feature crew necklines, single chest pockets, and clean hemming along the sleeves and bottom openings. They retail for $28 and are available in white, black, navy, and heather grey. For women, the Jessie Classic Fit Tee features similar styling but is available in a classic crewneck, v-neck, and scoop neck options. They retail for $24 and come in black, white, air blue, rose dust, beige, and peacoat. More styles will be added later this month.
